1. Went to the lab to research the negation for the resolution: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified. 2. Students are required to find research for the negation for this resolution and put that research on a word document that will be used during the debates. Make sure to cite the page sources on that same document and print a copy before class next period. |

1. Discussion on the world. We watched the highlights of President Trump's speech to congress while students were passed back past assignments. 2. Passed out the Lincoln Douglas introduction sheet. 1. Quick discussion on the world and current events. 2. Began oratory practice. Today each student was responsible for watching three speeches and delivering three speeches. If you were absent this day, download the document on the right and deliver your oratory speech three different times to three different people and listen to their feedback. |

1. Quick discussion on the world and current events. 2. Memorization and blocking of oratory speeches. You must have your typed oratory with you at the beginning of class so that you can practice your speech. If you were absent this day, it will be your responsibility to have this memorized and ready to go for recording next period. |

February 15th/16th
What we did in class:
1. We met in lab 137 where we finished typing and printing oratory stories to get ready for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. We will practice memorizing these next period. The period after that, we will record the stories and send them in to be judged. |

-If you did not print your story in class, you will need to go home and print for homework. You will need a hard copy of your story by next period. |
February 13th/14th
What we did in class:
1. Discussion on the world and current news topics. 2. Introduced Oratory. Oratory is a form of storytelling. We will learn about oratory by writing stories for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. 3. Watch some of the speeches from the YouTube clip on the right to get a handle on the types of stories that are told. At minutes 14:11, the speaker Lily Walker will perform. Lily attended Lehi Junior High. Cool, huh! 4. We went to the writing lab to begin writing stories to tell. We will be in lab 137 all next class period to finish writing stories and print them off. The day after that, we will spend memorizing and practicing performing the speeches. |

February 7th/8th
What we did in class:
1. Discussion on the world and current news topics. 2. Speed Debating: To get ready for impromptu speeches next period, students participated in a round of speed debating. We put the desks in two circles, with half the class on the inside and half on the outside. The students had two minute rounds debating an assigned topic. After two minutes, the groups rotated and received a new topic. If you were absent this day, you do not have an official assignment to make up, but be prepared to give an impromptu speech next period about an assigned topic. |

What we did in class:
1. Students had ten minutes to quickly go over their speeches. 2. The class was broken up into groups. Each group was responsible to listen to and write down information for each extemp speech. If you were gone this period, we will makeup your speech during class. 3. The remainder of class time was spent talking about the world and what is going on today. |

Use the PowerPoint to write down a brief explanation of the event. 4. AGD discussion. An AGD is an attention getting device. Debaters should always have a few AGDs in their pocket to begin a speech or debate with. 5. AGD speech: Students had five minutes to get a joke, quote, stat, life lesson or moral, story, etc. to quickly tell to get the audiences attention. |

Topic Ideas: A dentist trip, a funny experience, a time you cried, a family vacation, a birthday. |
